Babur before invading India notes that there are 7 major rulers in India, 5 of them are Muslims and 2 of them are Pagans (Hindus).
First two of the Muslims are the Lodhis in Delhi and Muhammad Muzaffer in Gujarat. Babur notes that Muzzafar is a constant copyist of Quran.
Next two of them are the Bahamanis in Deccan and the Malwa Sultanate. Both of them lie in ruin at that time. Bahamnais have no independent authority left. The Malwas Sultan Mahmud was defeated by Rana Sanga of Mewar and taken most of his territory.
The fifth one of them is the Bengal Sultanate under Nasrat Shah. Babur notes a strange custom that the rule their is not hereditary, whoever kills the king becomes the king.
The two Hindu kings are the kings of Bijapur (Vijaynagar) and Rana Sanga of Chittaur. Babur notes that Rana Sanga has grown powerful by the power of his sword and valour, he has taken all the dependencies of Malwa Sultanate like Ranthambore, Sarangpur etc.
Babur notes that India is a Hindu country and that most Hindus believe in rebirth. They follow the occupation that has been passed on to them by their forefathers and take names similarly.
