Being in SS1 was a bit confusing and exciting. Confusing because I was lost on which class to go. Science, Commercial or Arts. Exciting because I would be regarded as a senior. Image
I resumed late to school and I was helped to cope with existing luxuries of notes and past lectures by new friends who shared some things in common with me. Home training... Image
Ayomide Israel Akinkuade was the first I accosted. A lover of Financial Accounting and a devoted Christian percussionist. He was always beating drums even with his mouth when we were less busy in class. Without him, I wouldn't have been quickly settled in Commercial class. Image
There were days Ayomide wouldn't own up to my excesses even in the face of cane threat. He has my back covered and had suffered bullies from seniors in SS1 white most times because of me while I would run to hide and watch my friend being maltreated. Image
Our friendship was so bonded that he made me sneak out of the hostel to attend his church vigil. He promised me good dinner, only to be fed with two slices of toast bread. A whole ME. God no shame me sha, I still go drink Garri for hostel to balance equation. @Ayomideisrael Image
Ayo made up for it by sneaking in some food stuff from his mom's Kitchen. He was always my saving grace during long break hunger because borders dont always have money on them due to senior students' extortion. Image
Ayomide took cane for me on numerous occasions. There was a time we were asked to buy at least a text for the literature class. Ayomide knew that I was very ill but the teacher won't budge. He went ahead to borrow me his MERCHANT OF VENICE text, while he was flogged. Image
There was also another day we were about to be flogged for not doing Literature in English assignment by Mr Okolie. Ayomide came to my rescue once again in an unexplainable way. That man almost killed everyone with cane by shout GIVE ME YUAH BACK. But I was so saved. Image
In Accounts class, I am sure I would have been the worst student of the class if not for the heroics of Ayomide, to put me through when most of the teachers we had had no time for detailed teaching. He was always studying his Accounting textbook by J. O. Omuya. Image
If there was someone who always dreamt of becoming a Chattered Accountant, Ayomide was the first I ever knew. He was so committed to Accounting that I was ashamed of my performance after exams when compared to his. Ayo sabi Account but me, I sabi Yoruba language. Image
In terms of Ereepa, Ayomide was equally committed to playing. He was a stronger and a better football player than me back then. I'm sure he can't try me now. Although na leg I sabi break pass. He no go dare me sha. But jokes apart, our ereepa landed us in trouble on day. Image
One day, we were chasing ourselves around SS1 block and we were so engrossed in it like Tom and Jerry that we didn't hear the bell for end of long break. The culture of JOGS teachers was to blow whistle for students to comply. They blew it for us to kneel down, we ja pa to class. Image
When God would butter our bread, we were not the only one that ran inside the class, there were few people too. That's how Mr Akindele asked those who ran into the class to stand up. Myself and Ayo looked at ourselves and signaled innocence. Brethren, a snitch fished us out. Image
Sebi you know how babies cry when they collect their bread? That was how myself and Ayo as well as few others cried back to class after Mr Akindele led team performed beating surgery on our backs and buttocks. Image
Later in SS3, Ayomide became Library Prefect and the gap between us began to wane. I wanted my friend back but WAEC and Higher Institution finally separated us. Today, he is one of the finest Accountant and Money Managers in Nigeria. Where there is a will, there is a way. Image
Subomi Salami was another great pal I can't do without in JOGS. He was often referred to as OSANYIN because of his voice. He religiously wrote his notes but was always a victim of suspicion and circumstance when the class is in trouble. Image
Subomi also loved Accounts and gave very much of his attention to it. Due to his stature, he was often underrated and most guys thought he could be bullied but Subomi was a subtle silencer. He was also a victim of many floggings in class but wouldn't joke with reading. Image
Subomi was not directly influencing my knowledge of Accounting but his seriousness with reading sends flogging of commonsense to my medulla. As such, I was forced to read Accounts book despite not liking it at all. Today, he's also chartered and making waves in his world. Image
Niyi Sogbesan is another great guy I met in SS1 white. Despite being called Agba Woliams due to his fake funny theories, he was also a guru in Financial Accounting like Ayomide and Subomi. But he has a bald head which made us all call him IYEWU. Image
Niyi was a rugged guy. He was older than the three of us but Baba no sabi chop serious cane at all. He dey spoil body during flogging. He loves music like Ayo and wouldn't stop showing his passion for Accounting. We didn't finish JOGS together but he's now a Chartered Accountant Image
The summary of the Gist is FOLLOW YOUR PASSION. I don't love Accounting but I'm happy doing what I am doing today. What about you, are you happy doing what you're doing now?

Let's do this next week.
