On the EU-UK row over a "Belfast office" - which the Brexit propagandists are currently tripping over themselves to distort for their own ends - let's recall a few facts (remember those? They used to matter once...). To be precise:
1) Johnson's deal involves UK officials applying EU rules to large parts of economic activity within or involving NI. But he also gave EU officials the right to be present, on the ground, and indeed to give the actual operational orders in specific situations
2) Moreover, Johnson's deal also gave certain EU institutions and EU agencies the direct power to conduct their regulatory and administrative activities as regards NI, eg the Commission and state aid rules
3) However, since signing off his very own Withdrawal Package, Johnson has lied about and misrepresented it on a regular basis - particularly when it comes to the treatment of NI
4) So EU request for Belfast office was always going to be an obvious operational need, given what Johnson himself had agreed to. But his duplicitous behaviour has since made the EU's legitimate concerns even greater and more pressing.
5) Which is why this latest UK obstructionism, justified on grounds which are almost laughably hypocritical and self-serving, only increases the already strong suspicion that Johnson intends actively to sabotage his own Withdrawal Agreement & try to blame EU for consequences
"The Withdrawal Agreement doesn't say the EU can have an office". True. But it does say this ⬇️ and, in my view, the UK is not assisting in carrying out the tasks which flow from, or taking the appropriate measures to ensure fulfilment of its obligations under, its own agreement
