Sometimes we must turn to other languages to find le mot juste.

Here are a whole bunch of foreign words with no direct English equivalent.

🇩🇪 Kummerspeck: Excess weight gained from emotional overeating. Literally, grief bacon.
🇨🇿 Litost: Milan Kundera described the emotion as “a state of torment created by the sudden sight of one’s own misery.”

🇫🇷 L’esprit de l’escalier: Literally, stairwell wit—a too-late retort thought of only after departure.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Hiraeth: A Welsh word that refers to homesickness mixed with grief and sadness over the lost or departed, or a type of longing for the homeland or the romanticized past.

🇳🇱 Uitbuiken: Literally "outbellying"; to relax, satiated, between courses or after a meal.
🇮🇳 Jijivisha: The strong, eternal desire to live and to continue living.

🇷🇺 Toska: At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, yearning.
🇵🇰 Goya: An Urdu word that refers to the transporting suspension of disbelief that happens when fantasy is so realistic that it temporarily becomes reality.

🇸🇪 Badruka: A word for when someone is very slowly and very reluctantly easing themselves into a body of water.
🇹🇭 Greng-jai: That feeling you get when you don't want someone to do something for you because it would be a pain for them.

🇩🇰 Hygge: Denmark’s mantra, hygge is the pleasant, genial, and intimate feeling associated with sitting around a fire in the winter with close friends.
🇧🇷 Cafune: Leave it to the Brazilians to come up with a word for “tenderly running your fingers through your lover’s hair.”

🇮🇷 Zhaghzhagh: The chattering of teeth from the cold or from rage.
🇬🇪 Shemomedjamo: You know when you’re really full, but your meal is just so delicious, you can’t stop eating it? In Georgia, they feel your pain.

🇯🇵 Komorebi: A Japanese word that refers to the sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees.
🇪🇸 Estrenar: You know that feeling when you wear something the first time? Maybe it fits you like a glove. The experience of wearing something for the first time is estrenar.

🇩🇪 Backpfeifengesicht: A face badly in need of a fist.
🇵🇹 Saudade: The feeling of longing for something or someone that you love which is lost.

🇦🇿 Acgöz: When your stomach or mind is full but your eyes are still hungry. Also used to describe endless greed
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Ablach: A body not necessarily dead but maimed or reduced to a pitiable condition. Also used to refere to an insignificant person, although it also is employed in a playful manner to describe a child.
🇬🇱 Iktsuarpok: The feeling of anticipation when you're expecting someone that leads you to constantly check to see if they're coming.

🇵🇭 Kilig: The thrilling feeling of butterflies in your stomach that you typically feel when something romantic happens.
🇳🇴 Utepils: It literally translates to "outdoor lager." It typically refers to the act of sitting outside on a sunny day enjoying a beer.

🇷🇸 Merak: A feeling of bliss and the sense of oneness with the universe that comes from the simplest of pleasures.
