"1of who knows how many" I started talking about the need to defeat the system the UK had set up to keep us prisoner in 2016. The additional member system ( a variation on D'Hondt) is designed to prevent a majority Government in Holyrood.
"2 of who knows how many" The plan I came up with was to create a Constituency party in West Scotland that would promote the SNP in the constituency, and seek votes only in the regional list. I have flirted with it on and off since then. Those who know me can verify.
"3 of who knows how many" We always play by Westminster rules and we always lose, and then curse our luck. Luck has fuck all to do with it. Playing them at their game, under their rules does not mean we also follow their instruction.
"4 of who knows how many" If we make our own decisions within those rules imposed on us, that is fair- right? The unionist parties play the system to their benefit, but we are too nice for that. There are very obvious examples of Labour voters giving their second vote to Tories
"5 of who knows how many" So it is acceptible for unionist parties to vote for another unionist party in the list- that is verifiable. So why are we being told that an Indy party voting for another Indy party in the list would be a disaster, when we have proof it works?
"6 of who knows how many" The splitting the vote division are mainly people who don't yet understand fully how the system works. No one who understands the system would advocate that reducing the vote for A from 100k to 50k, when 100k won nothing, is detrimental to A. Is it?
"7 of who knows how many" After all 50% of nothing is still nothing - right? I stepped back from the intention to try to make something happen when more high profile yessers got involved. They after all have a better chance of reaching the numbers required to make it a success.
"8 of who knows how many" I have spoken to one of the parties who have emerged in favour of this idea. Then they have gone quiet again. There is another registered with the EC, but they are not engaging with the public. Then there is @RevStu who refuses to say if he will launch.
"9 of who knows how many" Stu is of course entitled to do entirely as he pleases, but my take here is we need to campaign for whatever our option is. And we need to start now.
"10 of who knows how many" Formulating, planning and delivering a campaign based on the info you have, only to find a late entrant into the race alters the dynamic will not help the aim of the campaign. Also, more than 1 party running in any constituency will be counterproductive
"11 of who knows how many" I tweeted earlier " we need to know who the runners and riders are" it essential for success that we know soon to allow us to adapt the situation. We cannot have several parties all arguing about who is entitled to stand where.
"12 of who knows how many" Campaigning for one thing, then changing to adapt to new entrants kinda destroys credibility. If there is no movement in this area soon, I will press ahead with a constituency based plan. I would prefer not to, a nationwide strategy would be preferable
"13 and final" I am happy to engage with anyone on the list party debate. I get bored very quickly with soundbites with no factual back up. The system is simple arithmetic, an asteroid passing over mars does not alter that. What you"think"has no impact here, just facts.#letstalk
