Essential post for animation and video game students. Unachievable ambitions, artistic pride, and willingness to do everything is the perfect recipe for self-destructiveness and go blind to your own talent. You don't have to be a "game changer" immediatly after school.
Take your time, it's ok to be a junior artist in a small company. Everyone need time to understand the industry, to accumulate culture and skill.
For me it's the pro-gamer syndrome, students want to reach the top 1 position. But you'll never find it in art and creative jobs.
Gobelins School is a neurosis.
12 years ago I failed perfectly the entrance test of this school. But it was ok for me. My goal wasn't excellence, but fulfillment. I think it's more easy to reach :)
Now I'm director of my own studio, we are working on greats projects, blah, blah, blah wohoo 100k on twitter. But it's not the essential for me.
My happiness in my job is to spend my day with great colleagues for a team work in my favorite city.
Anyway, @lu_curie is a great artist. She wrote her post like a dramatic case, but it's a real positive experience.
With what she went through, she's more than ready for a great career.
Stay critical of yourself to progress, learn to appreciate and savor your talent. Do things with it!
Conclusion of my philosophy :
Eating ramens and montaditos with my friends in the south of France > Working in super famous studio as a lead/director/superior social statut
