The Uttar Pradesh government exempts industries in the state from ALL LABOUR LAWS for the next 3 YEARS.

Only these labour laws will apply:

*Building and Other Construction Workers Act

*Section 5 of Payment of Wages Act

*Workmen Compensation Act

*Bonded Labour Act
The UP government has cleared it through an Ordinance. Need the approval of the central government now.
“It is absolutely shocking. This move turns the clock back by more than 100 years. It will lead to slave-like conditions for workers & it’s unacceptable, in violation of all human and fundamental rights,” labour law advocate Ramapriya Gopalakrishnan said.

The UP government said the economic activities in the states have been severely affected and slowed down due to the outbreak of Covid-19 as business came to a halt during the national lockdown. It wants to bring it "on track."
"The idea is that in the present circumstances where we need to provide employment to workers who have migrated back to the state and to protect the existing employment, some flexibility has to be given to business and industry,” Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary RK Tiwari told us.
Earlier, the MP government announced plans to introduce labour law changes, including allowing more factories to operate without following safety & health norms & give a free hand to new companies to “keep labourers in service as per their convenience”.

Let me spell it out some of the labour laws which will no longer apply in the state:

The Minimum Wages Act
The Maternity Benefit Act
The Equal Remuneration Act
The Trade Unions Act
The Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act
The Industrial Disputes Act
The Factories Act
...
The Contract Labour Act
The Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act
The Working Journalists Act
The Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act
The Employees’ State Insurance Act
The Payment of Bonus Act
The Unorganized Workers’ Social Security Act
The UP government has said that labour law provisions related to women and children will continue to apply in the state. So, the Maternity Benefit Act will stand.
