Donald Trump isn’t president to help anyone. He’s not interested in saving lives or marshaling resources to fight a pandemic.

Donald Trump is president to deal a death blow to government as an obstacle to overt corruption and obscene profit. That’s it.
People need to get familiar with post-political authoritarianism, the providing of the illusion of government while the authoritarian dismantles it for personal profit and power.

We’re in a new age and it will only get worse the longer we deny it.

Trump and authoritarians like him will never protect their people in a crisis. Crises are opportunities for grift and profit and further erosion of political and social trust and oversight.

Successfully fighting the pandemic isn’t a priority. Using it while lying about it is.
People need to disabuse themselves of the notion that leaders of a country are just inherently concerned with their country’s wellbeing.

People like Trump and Putin view nations as outdated notions and use them as objects of plunder and vehicles for profit. That’s all.
Hypercapitalism and globalism destroyed the notion of nations in general and vaporized any idea of the nation as existing as a way to improve the lives of its people.

We’re still holding onto that outdated concept and Trump and others are using to their advantage.
Any concern by Trump or these post-political authoritarians regarding the lives of their peoples is unfortunately an illusion meant to continue the myth of actual government as being for the people.

It’s a movement to destroy government forever. That’s what we’re watching.

Paramilitary groups and white supremacist terrorists shut down the Michigan legislature and it's barely a blip on the radar.

This is an act of political terrorism and it threatens open society and democracy itself. America is in serious danger.

There is an observable process by which nations slide into fascism and authoritarianism.

Paramilitary groups operating with impunity and affecting the legislative process through intimidation and terrorism is a massive, massive step.

Deny it all you want, we're on a path.
Like the pandemic, anti-democratic lawlessness and organized political terrorism is infectious. It begins and then grows and grows until it kills the body proper.

These groups interrupting government inspire attacks on open society. That's a major part of the authoritarian slide

At long last, you have to understand.

Republicans don't actually care about even their most heavily promoted issues. Abortion. Fiscal and social conservatism. Limited government. Religion. Law enforcement. Patriotism.

It's all malleable ideology in service of one thing: power.
For too long people have viewed the Republican Party in good-faith, as if they are misguided but earnest.

They're not. This party has transformed into a fascistic, anti-democratic movement that is more than willing to believe or push anything in the pursuit of power.
Pointing out Republican hypocrisy isn't a gotcha-moment for them. It's a spotlight on their actual workings.

It's never been about ideology or deeply-held beliefs. It's about using controversial issues and inherent white supremacy as a cudgel for political power.

That's it.

It feels like a cult because it's a cult.

And like other cults, the Cult of the Shining City, or the Cult of Trumpism, now defines itself explicitly around the worship of its leader.

They will take anything he says, no matter how absurd, and twist it into doctrine.
Does it feel crazy? Yes, it does, but only because we have been living in a mythical America that many of us are awakening from or have escaped.

Trumpism is a religious devotion to a mythical America that never actually existed but has been trumpeted for generations.
To understand what is happening, you have to understand that millions of Americans are caught in this cult and are deeply, deeply unwell.

If we're going to make it through this crisis, we have to face that fact and the fact that Trump is more than happy to use this cult.
