After Trump ousted the State Dept IG earlier this month, Democrats offered a raft of new proposals — some of which would bar Trump for firing IGs without cause.

Congress has attempted similar limitations on exec branch officials for years. But they haven’t been tested.

JUST IN: SCHIFF requests that outgoing DNI Grenell declassify and release transcripts of the Flynn-Kislyak calls, and share with the committee reports related to unmasking requests made by Obama officials in late 2016.

SIGNIFICANT: Grenell says he's in the process of declassifying Flynn-Kislyak transcripts.
