Get health insurance.
Get term life insurance, if you have a family to support.
Open & Fund your PPF account.
Fund your NPS account.
Put <insert months of your choice> months' expenses in an overnight/liquid fund.
Take whatever is left over and keep it in an FD or liquid fund.
Start building your equity portfolio (stocks, mutual funds, index funds, etfs whatever pleases you) during corrections (which happen almost once every year) or crashes (once every few years) and take it up to 50% (or any moderate %age) of your liquid assets over time.

In any investment you every make, avoid like a plague, anything that looks or smells like a get rich quick scheme or strategy.
Buy a house to live if you can afford it i.e if EMI doesn't consume a large part of your income.
