Given our so much higher death toll wouldn't make more sense to ask those *departing* to self-isolate for two weeks?

I know that asking those departing to self-isolate doesn't quite serve up our daily quota of British exceptionalism nor slyly point the finger at dirty Johnny Foreigner. But the notion someone coming from abroad poses a greater risk is hard to square with the evidence.
(Am reminded by this☝️ tweet of when I argued in law school that women's longer life expectancy meant that, instead of getting pensions earlier than men, women should get them later.)

Sadly, HMRC (gov.uk/hmrc-internal-…), applying the law made by our Parliament, has confirmed that those heroic entrepreneurs, the source of all wealth, that trickles down to mouths yours and mine (albeit in different ways) can pretend they are still living in their tax havens.

In which Keir Starmer slightly muffs his letter and Boris Johnson send a slightly dodgy reply. THREAD.
So here's Keir's letter. Note the difference between what he reports he said in the House "it remains very unlikely" and then his (different) citation of the advice "it is therefore very unlikely".
Then here's Boris Johnson's reply, in which he accuses Keir Starmer of "in the House" quoting the advice selectively and misleadingly by ignoring the critical context.

"Stay alert" is the pandemic's "Take back control." Its meaninglessness is its very point. It permits each of us to act just as we desire. And allows Government later (i) to deny permitting that which turns out to be bad (ii) to assert it urged that which turns out to be good.
The effects will also be the same as the referendum's. Disastrous for the country; zero accountability for those who delivered those effects; and an electorate that believes government speaks to its innermost desires.
This is not politics as we once understood it. It is not about the delivery of any one understanding of the public good. Public policy is subordinated to the accumulation of power and the diffusion of responsibility.
