It was from 1910, that surveyors from the colonial administration arrived Makurdi and began the search for a possible site for a railway terminus on the South of the River Bank. They opened telegraphic communication lines with Ibi and Lafia.
A labour camp was set up in the area in 1912 and by 1913, the British made a Nupe business man, Dan Afoda chief of the new layout. With the coming of a railline in 1925, Makurdi was set as a base for a cosmopolitan town.
Artisans f especially Igbo and the Yoruba, began to come to Makurdi.Their coming brought brought more commercial activities and money into the already growing town. Makurdi became a provincial headquarter in 1927. #Benue #BenueArchives
