/ Read the e-mail that Laurie Shelby, Tesla VP of environment, health & safety, sent to workers on Fri. to prepare them to come in for shifts this week. (Bottom of the post.) via @CNBCtech from me & @emma_newburger today. cnbc.com/2020/05/10/cor…
/ Employees don't know if Tesla will be cleared to reopen the factory but they've been asked to come in this week-- at CNBC we learned this from internal correspondence. If they don't come in, they don't get paid. No points off officially, but office politics a risk.
/ Now, Tesla has this health check list-- if employees have any signs or symptoms or vague feelings they could be sick, or got exposed to Covid-19, they're not supposed to come in. But if they stay home? It sounds like no pay. "Call HR." cnbc.com/2020/05/10/cor…
/ If you, like me, are lucky enough to have the option to work from home, count your blessings - whether you work at Tesla or any other company. (Some non-production workers at Tesla are still able to work remotely. Others still furloughed.) cnbc.com/2020/05/10/cor…
/ To read Tesla's entire "Covid-19 Notice: Health Check," You can check out the "Return to Work Playbook" embedded in our story, or on Tesla's blog. Page 18. Here's what it says:
/ A not so subtle detail in the "Return to Work Playbook" for Tesla -- Not everybody will get PPE. Some have to make & bring their own.
/ The file version on the "playbook" Tesla put out was V05012020. That suggests Tesla may not have made any changes to its plan in the last 8-9 days. Wondering: were any recommendations from Alameda County Public Health considered, or incorporated? When?
/ In a May 8 story, cnbc had an HR email to Tesla employees saying Alameda County extensively reviewed their return to work plans, and it was all good, the health orders allowed them to reopen. Apparently, they were mistaken. cnbc.com/2020/05/08/tes…
/ From that May 8 email... opting out of shifts due to covid-19 concerns? Use accrued personal time off, what’s left of it, or go “unpaid without penalty.”
- note: May 8th was the date of our story. May 7th was the date of the Tesla HR email referenced above.
