In times of stability this might not matter, but something big just happened. The US economy has taken a giant negative pulse that has shut down about one tenth of the workforce in a month. There is danger of starvation ahead.

The response of the Congress has been pitiful. And we can expect things to get worse. But we can’t blame the Congress people alone; their working material is a mess.

I didn’t realize I was probing that situation with this thread, which was a proposal for a small refactor. It went to my followers plus my three Congress representatives.

In two weeks I’ve received not one inquiry.

If you think of law as a design for the application of the powers of Government to the problems of Society, we had better start thinking about legislation as a design problem.

Today in particular we need agility, but we’re stuck with an inflexible legacy mess.
