China may be spying on US efforts to develop a coronavirus vaccine because there is no essential difference between offensive and defensive biowar research. The candidate vaccines will reveal how deeply the US understands what that class of viruses does.
It's like a game of genetic chess. Corona, whether artificial or arising from nature, is making some very deep moves with respect to the biologies of its hosts. If the Chinese analysis sees N moves ahead they want to know if their opponents see at least as far to checkmate them.
This is a very dangerous game, too perilous to continue for long without chance disaster. Is there anyone in Western governments who can think this one through or even articulate the problem?
