"We defended ourselves against our surroundings through song. We were between the ages of three and fifteen. We learned discipline, responsibility, stamina, and solidarity. We rehearsed a lot so that, when the time was right, a single cue... 2/5
...would be enough to bring us all to the stage to perform as one. Sometimes we stood in one spot for hours, training our focus as we practiced the song’s rendition. We were not afraid of public performances; we were afraid that we might not survive. 3/5
