While Facebook is probably mostly removing events that specifically urge the flouting of social distancing rules, its new policy seems to also target gatherings that are discouraged though not legally prohibited. politico.com/news/2020/04/2…
This policy is troubling for several reasons. First, Facebook has still not fully implemented the Santa Clara Principles, which would provide meaningful due process to impacted speakers and better ensure that enforcement of their content guidelines is fair.santaclaraprinciples.org
Second, the task Facebook has burdened itself with is daunting. Their policy uses the hazy standard of "government health guidance," and there are thousands of these guidelines in the US alone—and thousands more worldwide. eff.org/deeplinks/2020…
