In times of crisis hunger is the first byproduct. Cognizant of that fact the FG is giving relief to families of primary 1-3 children through the National Home Grown School Programme in line SDG 2 - which commits to end hunger in all its forms by 2030 & to achieve food security
Today, the modified school feeding programme under Covid-19 will commence in Abuja. 29,609 Take Home Rations will be distributed to parents and guardians of children.
No children will be involved in the process. The rations would be given to their parents/guardians/caregivers who will adhere to strict #COVIDー19 social distancing measures.
Over the past few days, QR coded, date and time stamped vouchers have been distributed door to door using data supplied by states and the @NHGSFP
The FG is funding the programme which will run in all 36 states and Abuja starting from Abuja then Lagos and Ogun before other states. The states are implementing the program.
The programme will impact 3,131,971 households across the nation. The only difference is that instead of children getting cooked meals in school their parents/guardians would get food items.
Each Take home ration is made up of 5 kg Bag of Rice, 5 kg Bag of Beans, 500 ml Vegetable Oil, 750 ml Palm Oil, 500 mg Salt, 15 pcs of eggs, 140gm Tomato Paste
On Tuesday the perm sec @FMHDSD inspected the Take Home Rations in Abuja which have been supplied by state aggregators in the FCT.
This school feeding programme by giving out 15 eggs per beneficiary is providing much needed patronage for poultry farmers in Nigeria.
Thanks to this programme Poultry farmers and others in the agricultural value chain will earn income at this difficult time thus boosting the economy.
895 Cooks employed to cook for school children are part of the process and so will earn an income during this lockdown thus impacting their families.
Every country in the world is providing palliatives for their vulnerable citizens. Nigeria is not different. This programme is a proactive intervention by the FG sequel to a Presidential directive of March 29th, 2020
The school feeding programme is supporting local farmers, providing income and alleviating hunger among the vulnerable.
The FG is providing funding while the states are implementing with the World Food Programme providing Technical support
Other agencies of govt including the DSS, @officialEFCC, @ICPC_PE, Code of Conduct Bureau and a host of NGOs and CSOs  are monitoring.
The list of aggregators have been sent to the EFCC for monitoring and evaluation.
We call on all Nigerians to support this initiative with the sole objective of alleviating hunger during this difficult period.
