1/ $AYX and Tableau:

[THREAD from my hands-on experience]

Data Analytics ( $AYX ) and Data Visualization (Tableau) are two completely different tools, in my opinion.

In this thread, I will show you how each software differs by using a recently completed graduate class project.
2/ This assignment utilized the most recent COVID-19 dataset downloaded from GitHub as of 05/13/2020.

Confirmed, Deaths, Recovered, Active by City/State:
github.com/CSSEGISandData…

I downloaded it in Raw format:
raw.githubusercontent.com/CSSEGISandData…
3/ Step 1: Alteryx (Analyzing Data)

Start Point (Input Raw Data)

End Point (Output Excel File)
4/ Step 1: Alteryx Cont'd

Create a "Workflow" - See below for my simple 5 step workflow:

1. Input raw data
2. Select fields w/in the raw data that we want to use
3. Filter out for certain conditions
4. Create a formula for adding "zeros" where needed
5. Output data to Excel
5/ Step 2: Tableau

Once we have a usable Excel dataset, we can then upload it to Tableau to create meaningful visualizations.

Ex 1: Active cases by state - NY highest (dark blue)

Ex 2: US counties (excluding NYC) w/ the highest amount of active cases (Cook County, IL w/ ~53k)
6/ Step 2: Tableau Cont'd

I was able to break down the data further to show the top 20 counties with the highest # of active cases (Ex 1) and deaths (Ex 2) per capita (active cases per 1,000 people).

This is excluding NYC.
7/ There were intricacies that I did not explain.

Some of which are detailed and easier understood via YouTube or Alteryx/Tableau forums.
8/ The point of this was to show how each software differs and to give a glimpse into the layout of each software to those who have not seen them before.

$AYX - Data Analytics
Tableau - Data Visualization
9/ These software programs are not limited to the aforementioned but are more often than not assumed to be that.

I hope this thread helped anyone who is interested in learning more about Alteryx or Tableau!

Cheers
NOTE: Tableau ( $DATA ) was purchased by Salesforce ( $CRM ) in 2019 for roughly $16 billion.
