Thank you for those generous words. I wish that the show was not as relevant as it seems to be today, that the themes we explored would, by now, be considered out of date and passe, but it seems that this is not to be our reality, at least for the present moment. In general --
-- I think one can rarely go wrong in looking to the patterns of history to repeat themselves, an assumption that underscored B5 and landed us here...but there is another side to this pattern. The Black Death led directly to the Renaissance; the repressive 50s summoned a --
-- counter-reaction in the more liberal 60s. But by the same token, the awfulness of WW1 and the Great Depression gave us Fascists and Nazis. A similar moment awaits us. Once this is over -- and it will be, once a vaccine is delivered -- the world will need a moment to --
-- catch its collective breath. Then those on all sides of the equation, the fascists and the bully-boys, the progressives and the left and every other group that hopes to hold sway and influence, will see their opportunity. The world cannot go back to what it was, to --
-- business as usual, and while everyone is distracted with loss and grief and uncertainty, not sure of the way forward, all the forces of repression will hit hard with everything they have in hopes of remaking the world in their image. They will attempt to turn grief into --
-- rage, and rage into a platform. It is at this moment that I believe, despite the disdain from their elders, that the Millennials and Gen Z -- those who have the least to lose now and will be even more unburdened in the aftermath -- will step up to do what's necessary. We --
-- will all have to be ready when that moment comes, and see it for what it is. It will come because it always comes after events of this magnitude. That's the pattern. That's the pendulum. If men and women of conscience don't move it, someone else will.
