My epic battle against my inbox continues. I am currently up to date as of April 23. I have 344 emails Google informs me are both unread and important. I have untold numbers of unimportant, unread emails. For those of you who followed along last time, yes, I have lost ground.
I will, of course, live-tweet my progress--such that it may be. I will fight the emails on land and sea and in the air...

I have made it to April 24.
And it's April 25. People always say to me that if you just ignore your email long enough, things become moot. The current experiment is not validating this thesis. Rather, it is validating a different thesis: if you ignore your email long enough, you get further behind and later

Major breakthrough: It is May. My email inbox now at least corresponds with the correct month. Unread and important count stands at 251.

The battle continues. 265 enemy emails, dating from as early as the beginning of the month. How many of them can I slay before @inlieuoffunshow with @shaneharris—who is well aware that I regard incoming emails as enemy combatants?

All emails prior to May 3 have now been defeated utterly.
One nice thing about the war on emails is how many of my unread emails actually turn out to be editorial suggestions from @qjurecic to columns we wrote together—things that we've already discussed orally. I see Quinta's name, and I think, "I've already dealt with that."
Cinco de Mayo commemorates a battle during the Franco-Mexican war in 1862. I have now reached Cinco de Mayo in my emails: The emails will suffer a defeat that will be commemorated for many a generation.
