NIGHTLY READING THREAD: Welcome to Edition #61 of #GMGReads. Every night through this weird time, I'm tweeting out a list of my five favorite books around a general theme—and a link to an indie bookstore where you can order them online....
We made it to another Friday! Another week complete! I've been trying to do lighter reading suggestions for the weekend, so tonight some well-written literary thrillers with an international flavor:
1) I discovered British writer Gerald Seymour only relatively recently, but find his books excellent. Try DENIABLE DEATH: strandbooks.com/product/978125…
2) Chris Morgan Jones' AGENT OF DECEIT is an excellent, globe-trotting thriller, focused on Russian money laundering: betterworldbooks.com/product/detail…
3) It's sort of been lost to history, but Allan Folsom's DAY AFTER TOMORROW was a huge sensation when it came out in 1994—it sold for $2 million at the time—and is still well worth the read: strandbooks.com/product/978031…
4) Dan Fesperman (@danfesperman) is a journalist-turned-thriller writer, and his THE SMALL BOAT OF GREAT SORROWS, about the long shadow of history in the Balkans, is just so well-written: powells.com/book/-97814000…
5) The New York Times said Ted Mooney's literary thriller SAME RIVER TWICE—about Paris, smuggling, and art—proves "it is perfectly possible to find a novel that has it all," and I agree: strandbooks.com/product/978030…
Those are tonight's reads. What are your favorite thrillers? What are you reading this weekend? Share! I just finished @HC_Richardson's HOW THE SOUTH WON THE CIVIL WAR and am now starting @nguyen_p_quemai's THE MOUNTAINS SING. #avidreadersunite
