Today's Topic: IDENTITY.

There's something about who you are that the devil doesn't want you to know, or rather, wants you to doubt. Your identity plays a major role in the course of your life.

Father, we bless you for tonight. Thank you for loving us unrepentantly and for covering us in the shadow of your wings.
LORD tonight, please bless our hearts and let us come to the reality of who we are in you. Amen.

One thing that's peculiar to every man, not minding race/tribe/status, is identity. Your identity defines you. Who you are or choose to be has a massive effect on what happens in the journey of your life. Your identity stems from your perceptions and invariably your actions

From the beginning of time, God gave man an identity.
We'll call it God's Own Identity.
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.
Genesis 1:26

God's intention from the start wasn't to produce a man that had a different way of life or thought process

From time, man had God's identity, God's nature. God could relate with man because they both were in sync. God created man to be His version on earth. The Dominion and everything man needed to represent God on earth was given to him.
But in the end, man lost that Identity. How?

The serpent said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good & evil.”
Genesis 3:1, 5

Devil in his craftiness knew that once he could get them to doubt their identity, they would fall. The truth is, there were already like God!!! They were made in God's image and likeness! What else would they become? But because Adam & Eve either didn't know/doubted, they fell.

You see that "small" event, that fall, exposed man to much more wiles of the devil. The ideal nature in man became corrupted by sin. This sinful nature would never be in agreement with God's nature.
And no matter the number of laws, man would never be able to meet up.

That nature has to be replaced. Man needed to die to the sinful nature and resurrect with the default settings. This is what Christ came to do. Jesus Christ came to avail himself as the ultimate sacrifice needed to restore man to the original nature of God. The original identity

Glory to God for loving us so much that He sent His son Jesus to die so that by the reason of His blood we may be washed clean and made new. The covenant of the Law only create temporary restitution between man and God but it didn't fix the sinful nature.

The law further revealed the dominance of the sinful nature in man. You'd agree with me that the flesh sometimes wants to do something that it's been warned against. That's the adamic/sinful nature.
This conferred the Sinner identity to everyone who's yet to accept Christ.

If the law/the blood of lambs and goats was sufficient to make man in right standing with God, Jesus wouldn't have come to die.

Hebrews 12:24
[24]And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

But here's the good news. We don't have to carry the Sinner Identity anymore. We don't have to be slaves to sin anymore. We don't have to carry the sinful nature anymore!

Through Jesus, we can be made new. We can regain the nature of God, the identity of Light that we once had.

2 Corinthians 5:17-18
[17]Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
[18]And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

The first thing that happens when you accept Christ is that you who was dead to sin will become alive to righteousness (1 Peter 2:24)
This gives you the right to become a child of God. (John 1:12-13)
Colossians 1:12-14
[12]Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet...

...to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
[13]Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
[14]In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

In Christ, you're no longer a slave but a SON.
You no longer have the sinful nature but you carry the ZOE LIFE (God's Identity).
You are a KING and a PRIEST.
Check out 1 Peter 2:9 and Revelations 1:6 to see who you are on Christ Jesus.
The devil doesn't want you to know this!

In Christ, you have authority over every works of darkness. You are a Victor and not a Victim. You have power over temptations. You have Dominion. You are a light and have the power to shine. It's about time you walk in the realization of who you are.

The devil still short-change believers because they either don't know who they are or they doubt who God says they are.
The devil tried to tempt Jesus and said "if you are the son of God, do this" ahah..Jesus didn't have to prove anything. Jesus knew better. You should to.

If you don't study the Word, there's no way you'll know who you are in Christ. Feed your Spirit. Bulk up on the Word. Build your mindset with the identity God has given you. When you don't, you weaken your heart and give room to doubt. This is what gives the devil access to you.

Your Identity is in Christ, not in the things that happen in your environment. There are times you may be tempted to think you're not who God says you are, don't give in. Nothing can change who you are in Christ and that's where your authority lies.

Only when you know and are confident of your identity can you shine as light, salten the earth, do greater works and defeat the devil in the battlefield of your mind.
