After the Jumla of "20 Lakh Crore Package" for COVID, another Jumla doing the rounds is the shifting of the companies from China to India. Suddenly, all the newspapers reported yesterday that a German brand of Shoes has shifted its production from China to India. 1/n

A simple google search shows that literally all the Indian news channels and business papers have a story on that. All the WhatsApp groups are also abuzz with the posts that a German brand is shifting its production from China to India. 2/n

Since common sense tells us that it is not possible to shift production during a lockdown, I decided to research the background of this German brand. The name of the brand is Von Wellx Germany. It is supposed to be owned by Casa Everz Gmbh. 3/n

So, here is the list of trademarks owned by Casa Everz Gmbh as per its website. 4/n

I was surprised to see no Von Wellx Germany in the list of trademarks owned by Casa Everz Gmbh. So, I decided to search the Von Wellx Germany in the database of Indian trademarks. And I could easily find it in the Indian trademarks. 5/n

The trademark is registered in Delhi and filed by a company from UAE. Looked pretty much like a company owned by an Indian. 6/n

So, I decided to search a little more, and then I stumbled upon an article in The New Indian Express about the same brand. The article is from 9th May. There is a picture of the CEO of the company in the article and his name is Ashish Jain. 7/n

Further search led me to an article on the startups that gives further details on the company. The company is an Indian startup headquartered in New Delhi started by Mr. Jain. 8/n

So, here is an Indian brand, started by an Indian, headquartered in New Delhi, claiming that it is shifting production from China to India and all the MSM publishes a story stating that a German Brand owned by a German company shifting production from China to India. 9/n

When will Indian media start doing a basic fact check before publishing a story? It takes just a couple of hours to check the story. I hope, one day they stop cheating their readers with fake stories. n/n
