He was trying to throw cold water on the lab accident theory, but he slipped up. Chinese authorities sanitized the wet market by Jan. 1, after taking samples of the animals there. If they were investigating the lab over a month later, unlikely they found the host in the market.
Zhong also says his good friend Dr. Shi who runs the bat coronavirus program at the Wuhan lab, assured him she was not working on engineering viruses. But the theory is it was a natural virus the lab had collected that accidentally escaped.
Bottom line is, Chinese authorities haven’t shared any of the samples they collected from the market, any of the early virus samples or let anyone else investigate the lab at all. So anyone who tells you they know for sure the origin is wrong or lying.
