Surah Ash-Shūra

Only surah in the Quran that begins with:
ح م
ع س ق

Ash-Shūra means consultation
Because Allah SWT commands the Muslims to consult with each other before undertaking a decision (in v.38).

#YQGems
Main theme of Surah Ash-Shūra to clarify the revelation from Allah SWT. It also goes into L detail regarding towheed and proving the day of judgement.
Sub motif: concept of rizq (sustenance), Allah giving sustenance and how Allah chooses to give to whomever he chooses

#YQGems
We sent the Arabic Quran to guide the central city (Makkah and surrounding areas).

#YQGems
We sent for you the same religion that Nūh, Abraham, and Isa AS followed.

#YQGems
Allah azzawajal is Latif. This means a merciful kindness that is nourishing.

#YQGems
Whoever wants the crops of the hereafter, We will increase those crops. And whoever wants the harvest of this world, We shall give him all that he desires, and he shall not have anything of the hereafter.

#YQGems
The one who never desired Allah, why should we think that he would get the benefits of the hereafter? #YQGems
Allah also explains why He gives some wealth and others not. V.27 if Allah were to simply hand out all of the riqz He wanted to or that all His servants wanted, they would have transgressed on this earth.

#YQGems
But rather Allah sends down in precise measurements to those whom he chooses. Surely regarding His servants He is an expert observer.

#YQGems
If Allah gives as much as a person wants, they will transgress. Therefore He gives as much as He sees fit as a benefit to that person.

#YQGems
In the same way Allah assigns wealth, so to Allah assigns families.

It is up to Allah. He is the knowledgeable one. He knows what is best for every situation.

#YQGems
This does not mean we do not continue to make dua’a for what we desire. We should continue to make dua’a till the day we die.

#YQGems
But on some level we should also accept Allah’s qadr. So that if we do not get what we desire, we understand that Allah’s azzawajal will is more important and He is more knowledgeable than our desire.
#YQGems
Everything happens by Allah’s Qadr.
#YQGems
The believers are those who:
Rely on their Lord
Avoid the major sins
Avoid indecencies
And when they become angry, that is when they forgive

#YQGems
It is easy to forgive when we are calm. But when are angry, we should find it in our hearts to forgive in that moment

#YQGems
The verse after which Surah Ash-Shūra is named #YQGems

Any time there is a major decision, whether you are a head of state or head of a household, it is sunnah that you get the advice of other people. And you listen to what they say. And you pray istikhara.

#YQGems
Whoever does itishara and istikhara will never be disappointed.

#YQGems
The prophet SAWS would gather the sahaba and ask them what he should do. Before Badr, before Uhud, before every major decision he does this.

The believers take their affairs by mutual consultation.

#YQGems
If you have been wronged you can defend yourself in manners that are legitimate to do so.

BUT

Whoever forgives, his reward is with Allah SWT. Verily does not love the one who is unjust.

#YQGems
The beauty of Islam:

When someone does wrong to you there is a spectrum of permissible reaction.

At the bottom: you do an equivalent amount of wrong back unto them.
In the middle: forgive
At the top: forgiveness and making up with the person (the muttaqeen level)

#YQGems
V.11 is one of the most important verses used by all the various sects in Islam

“There is nothing like unto Him”. Allah is saying there is nothing whatsoever that resembles Him. Nothing. You cannot fully comprehend Allah. He absolutely unique.

#YQGems
Allah is the Hearer and Seer. But there is nothing like our hearing and seeing compared to Allah’s hearing and seeing. But how Allah hears and sees is beyond our comprehension.

#YQGems
Another key theological verse. V.30

Evil happens but if we are patient, that evil will be a mechanism of having our sins forgiven. It is not even equivalent. A small evil, if we exhibit proper imaan, Allah will forgive many sins.

#YQGems
The surah concludes saying that Allah does not talk to any human directly except by wahi (angel Jibreel delivers the message, or a dream), or from behind a veil (Muhammad SAWS, Musa AS), or a messenger delivers it.
