Thread on my experience as a corper during d 2011 presidential election.

I was serving in Taraba, got d position of a polling officer. On the election day, some Fulani/Hausa's came with underage kids to vote. By mere looking at them, you will know they aren't up to 18years.
They actually do have voting cards with them. I tried forming a patriotic citizen, not to allow them vote.
But they polling assistant, being half Igbo (dad) and half Fulani (mum), whispered to my ears, saying "from the little he can understand this people are saying,
they will attack us if we don't allow these kids to vote"
Ah! As nwa guy I was, I looked at the police and civil defense personnel with us at the polling unit & all they had were batons. I looked at the other party, I can visibly see Dane guns, cutlasses, daggers, sticks etc
they were all holding.
At that moment, a scale fell off from my eyes and this people I thought that were kids automatically turned 18 years in my eyes, I smiled and called them all to come and vote.

Imagined being killed because of what?
Making my family and loved ones cry for being patriotic to a country that will forget I existed.
At the end of the election, they insisted I must give them the empty voting papers, even the police man said I should listen to them. I gladly gave it to them with all my heart.
Who wan die.
Thank God for that young man that is the PA, we made it home alive.
Nigeria really needs an electoral reform #ElectoralReformsNow

Using this opportunity to remember a close friend and one of our ABSU, faculty of environmental brethren, Obinna Okpokiri.
One of those Killed in 2011 at Bauchi because Buhari lost that election. A patriotic citizen that the country forgot. He Finished his masters in UK, came back home to serve his country. A young vibrant, brilliant and  handsome man, whose only crime was being Igbo,
and serving his so called father's land. Killed and his corpse burnt to ashes by those who believe power should be their's & people who do not know the value of education.
When people ask me the reasons why I don't and will never support a Buhari government, I remind them of this. His folks followed his words and killed people they thought are baboons.

May he continue to rest in God's bosom.
