@WolfgangFeist points out that energy services (and GDP) have been increasing significantly in Germany, even as total primary energy use has been going down, thanks to efficiency improvements. That's to be celebrated. @the_iPHA

kicked off his press conference just now with quote by Carl Sagan about our planet Earth: "It's the only home we have...there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves."

.@WolfgangFeist: #PassiveHouse not only brings revolutionary reduction in heating energy use in buildings, but Passive House modeling is also highly predictive, with very close correlation between prediction and actual energy use. @the_iPHA
.@WolfgangFeist shows that increased efficiency plus a shift to renewable energy development (at pace similar to the past pace of fossil energy development) brings us to "zero" this century. @the_iPHA
.@WolfgangFeist shows exponential growth in number of Passive House-certified components, sign of pace of innovation. @the_iPHA
.@WolfgangFeist shows 1 million square meter #PassiveHouse development in Gaobedian, China. @the_iPHA
International #PassiveHouse Conference is going virtual this year. More details to come... @the_iPHA
Jeff Colley of @phplusmag asks about #EmbodiedCarbon: Should LCA take into account building robustness? (#PassiveHouse known to last for long time.) .@WolfgangFeist: PHI is working on a tool that includes life span of the building as parameter for LCA. Very important.
.@WolfgangFeist We know that a major source of emissions is from heating buildings. We are certain about this.
Important point: protect building materials form humidity. Wooden construction can last for thousands of years if properly built/protected.
.@WolfgangFeist: We introduced mechanical ventilation to the #PassiveHouse approach in order to improve air, to create ample air exchange. You need fresh air from outside, NOT recirculated air. Now known as "hygiene ventilation". Important in time of Covid-19.
.@WolfgangFeist: Airtightness of #PassiveHouse reduces possibility of germ entry through envelope of the building. Very important to hygiene of building.
