Jeff produces, engineers, and edits the show, and he’s been doing so under…less-than-ideal circumstances. But it always sounds and flows great. And he brings a calm, patient, and supportive vibe that lets everyone — from guests to staff to me — do their best work.
Roge is our researcher, but that doesn’t begin to cover it. He synthesizes vast quantities of material with a speed I still don’t believe, and is my partner in thinking through what the conversations should be. And he brings a rare and necessary optimism about people and ideas.

You see this watching the protesters. They are out there trying to stop police brutality. They are also, over and over again, trying to protect their cities and movements from the people who just want to cause damage. They're the ones who have this right.
To make a point from here more precisely: Out-of-control police officers destabilize society. People who use the cover of political protests to loot are part of the chaos those cops cause. Ending police brutality is the way to solve both problems.
But then, politically, people use the looters to distract from the police brutality, and leave the root problem unsolved. Or, as we're seeing from some conservative pols on Twitter today, they use the looters to justify more police brutality, making the root problem worse.

Rioters aren’t accountable. You can’t call up their union. They’re not under anyone's control. People using protest as cover for chaos are a terribly hard problem to solve.

But the police are supposed to be accountable. Police brutality is a problem we should be able to solve.
And here's the good news: If there was less police brutality, there would be less rioting. If a man hadn't been murdered, slowly, on camera, by police, our cities wouldn't be in flames.
So many want to force a false choice: do you support the rioters or the cops?

But out-of-control police and rioters are fundamentally on the same side: They are both threats to social stability. They both destroy lives and cities. They feed off each other.

One question I've gotten on this is should Democrats be willing to say they won't pass a stimulus bill that doesn't tie unemployment insurance, and maybe SNAP, to actual economic conditions?

These policies are popular, They are good economics. And if Democrats don't pass them, they're setting up a political and economic disaster in 2021.
Without them, Biden’s presidency will just be endless, brutal fights to reauthorize economic support, against a Republican Party ideologically and strategically opposed to further stimulus.

We've seen this movie before.
