While this is a Georgia issue, everyone in the nation should pay attention because this is part of the national republican playbook in some form in almost every state. This is a real problem.

It was completely unnecessary to cancel the election considering the state has been aware of this seat opening and Georgians are mailing ballots as we speak. But this was outright election theft.
But because of some underhanded dealing the primary election was cancelled, lawsuits were filed, and the court interpreted the law suspiciously conveniently to favor the republicans.
Truth be told, Kemp has nothing to do with elections as they are completely handled by the department of state. However, Kemp's replacement at State(Raffensperger) is essentially his handpicked flunky so Kemp exerts illegal influence over elections.
And because Kemp, Raffensperger and Judge Blackwell colluded and manipulated the system to essentially eliminate the general election, the governor will appoint a republican replacement for two years rather than for 6 months.
So by extension, using the same scheme, every Supreme Court seat that comes up for election for the foreseeable future could be gamed the same way by these state officials in order to seat handpicked political allies and deny the public their vote.
This is what real election fraud and theft looks like. Contrary to the republicans' constant complaints, voter fraud and election theft have nothing to do with purging actual voters while eliminating dead people from voter rolls Voter ID or absentee ballots...
...(although republicans clearly do abuse those thigs, too.) The problem is it's the exercise of pure, unchecked power and validated by a biased court system.
Every voter in Georgia should be up in arms, not just because the governor short-circuited the electoral process, but because the republican primary candidate was screwed over, too.
In the bigger picture, that's just one of the reason William Barr has threatened to go after any individual at the FBI who dares to investigate election fraud.
