Gotta read the fine print on this one. The CDC is not saying that the virus doesn't spread through contaminated surfaces. It's saying that it's not the MAIN way that it spreads.

"There has been no new, major study to suggest that contaminated surfaces are less important in the spread of COVID-19, but epidemiological data... has simply found that person-to-person contact is more important..."

Infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt comments:

"Person-to-person contact is a highway, and the inanimate environment is a byway. Touching infected surfaces are little paths, but they don’t carry the big viral traffic.”

This is helpful. For me, I still thinks it's wise to be vigilant about both paths. But there's no question that person-to-person contact seems to be the major path to infection.

Paul wrote Romans 13:1-7 when Nero was the emperor in Rome.

If these words applied when Paul wrote to the Romans under Emperor Nero, then they apply no less to us under whatever governing authorities we find ourselves under.

God ordains governing authorities toward certain ends: "It is a minister of God to you for good... it is a minister of God, who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil."

Governing authorities can stray from those ends. When they command us to do something God prohibits or they prohibit us from doing something God commands, we must disobey them. For "we must obey God rather than men" when human authority commands us to disobey God (Acts 5:29).

These kinds of stories are frustrating because they confuse Christianity with reparative therapy. Reparative therapy is a secular theory stemming from the work of Joseph Nicolosi. Its foundations are not in Christian revelation.

Some Christians have sought to "Christianize" reparative therapy in order to change sexual orientation or gender identity. That project remains controversial among Christians.

Reparative therapy is premised upon a secular psychological theory about broken/dysfunctional relationships with parents that need to be "repaired" before the subject can be "straight" again. Its "therapies" proceed from that premise.
