Often society cannot regain in politics what it has lost in culture, assuming "politics is downstream of culture". If everything in the store shelves is crud because the supply chain itself is crud, there's not much one can do in the short term.
There's no choice but turn to the long term. One of the most dismaying aspects of the Corona crisis was how hollow so many vaunted institutions turned out to be.
