1) In the past couple of days, ERs in Montreal, Laval and the South Shore have been overcrowded continuously from morning to night, in stark contrast with the rosy government pronouncements about the #pandemic. Please click on my story below. montrealgazette.com/news/local-new…
2) Since the start of the #pandemic, Premier @francoislegault has rattled off the number of #COVID hospitalizations each day, even though the crisis hit long-term care centres the hardest. And now the government wants to ramp up surgeries even though ERs are swamped.
3) Yes, the number of #COVID deaths in Montreal appears to be on the decline, as the dark blue line in the chart below suggests. Yet the government is allowing public gatherings of 10 people as of this Friday even though the #coronavirus is still spreading in communities.
4) Two Montreal boroughs have each declared more than 200 #COVID deaths, and a third, Côte-des-Neiges-N.DG., is close behind. Rosemont-La Petite Patrie reported the biggest increase in deaths of any borough on Wednesday, 12, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the #pandemic.
5) Yes, Montreal added a relatively low 319 cases to its #COVID tally on Wednesday. But the government confirmed that it carried out just over 9,500 screening tests since Tuesday, far short of its daily 14,000 goal, so necessary to know what's going on in the #pandemic.
6) Among other troubling anomalies, the government disclosed a total of 2,236 #COVID deaths in long-term care centres on Tuesday, only to lower that figure to 2,201 today. This does not instill confidence as Quebec rushes to reopen while ER overcrowding surges. End of thread.
