1. Fast becoming evident that in the eyes the government- the PVI sector is to the school system what care homes are to the NHS in this crisis.

Note- I say this as a teacher and daughter of NHS nurse- I’m NOT criticising schools and nhs...

My thoughts- feel free to add....
2. Funding in schools is bad. But funding/pay for the PVI sector- even before this? Absolutely disgraceful...

And during this pandemic? Funding u-turns, staff furloughed, settings supporting children and families on the brink of closure- it’s already started.
3. There is an expectation for PVIs to open more widely- just like schools many have remained open throughout to support provision children.

Schools have had “guidance” late night arriving- ever changing- ambiguous “guidance” as they prepare for possibly phased return...
... meanwhile the EYs sector has had nothing specific. Literally nothing. And according something I read today...there’s no promise they’ll have even it this week...

I’ve been in school physically and virtually making plans. How can PvIs do this? Add in staff may be furloughed?
Those working in the PVI sector are massively underpaid for the work they do, and the hours they work. Many are highly qualified, many believed they were studying to be recognised as a teacher... they weren’t...
6. Those in schools are likely to have rooms to spread in. Our colleagues in PVI maybe in a hall with no separate spaces or in an old house... some won’t have any outdoor space...
7. Those of us working in school settings are trying to work out how to try and socially distance- despite gov telling us we don’t need to.. unless we are in a shop, on the beach, walking around the block, in a park, or visiting relatives...
8. Meanwhile our PVI colleagues- much like our care home colleagues are working with the age groups who need the most physical and intimate care. Will they get the PPE they need?
9. Those of us in school have unions to support us @NEUnion @NASUWT @NAHTnews Those in PVIs are less likely to be in unions- possibly due to cost or just the fact it’s unclear which ones they can join which support them as a sector specifically.
10. Our PVI sector matters. I for one want to see this recognised. The gov, inspectorate and media need to stop completely missing them out...

We’ve seen what’s happened in our care homes. Finally they are being recognised. Too little too late.

This must not happen to PVIs.
Do you agree?
Final thought...

We must stand together as a nation to stop this divisive system.

Our dedicated care home sector must not the poor relations to our dedicated NHS.

Our dedicated PVI sector must not be the poor relations to school.

What do you think?
And I’ve forgotten the number again! Oops!
@BorisJohnson @educationgovuk @GavinWilliamson @vickyford @NickGibbUK step up and support a sector that keeps the country running. They need support, funding and recognition more than ever before. My EYs family deserve better and so do the children/families they care for.
