On the two types of Courage

Physical courage
Ability to face up to physical pain and do tasks that entail physical risk

Philosophical courage
Ability to defend one's beliefs in a crowd where everyone finds your opinions odd

Don't think these two types of courage are correlated
Philosophical courage is not necessarily always a good thing

It can lead to obstinate stances, wilful ignorance of the "wisdom of the crowds" and "history" and needless "detours"
So there can be a "conservative" critique of Philosophical courage

But having said that "group think" and "philosophical diffidence" are also encouraged on the Left.

So philosophical courage or lack of it is observed on both sides of the political spectrum
