Everyone needs to go all in on funding independent journalism in the short term. That is going to be the only way to lead us out of this mess. Then afterward we can discuss viable funding models (my favorite is "get rid of useless execs")

And by "everyone," I don't mean individuals. I mean entities. Corporations (especially Facebook and Twitter) need to pony up. They have gone out of their way to destroy my industry to feather their own nests, and now it's time to pay for it, literally.
And regional governments need to take that money they're using to build sites like these and pour it into newsrooms. Yes, I know. No, I don't care. We're all in it together. This is the time to do it. We can discuss how it's problematic and nothing but a short-term solution later
The alternative is continuing down the road of needless suffering thanks to corrosive, weaponized disinformation and what I just saw called combat propaganda. Kremlin propaganda weakened Ukraine internally for years before Russia annexed Crimea, by design. We have to fight back.
