On Monday, I attended the Lake Chad Ministerial Roundtable Meeting. It was a virtual interaction and in my comments, I highlighted the important work #WorldBank is doing in the Region which faces multi-dimensional risk factors that deepen vulnerabilities. Image
The vicious cycle of fragility has been exacerbated by the transnational dimension Boko Haram’s violent activity has assumed since 2014 with the spread of its terrorist attacks from Nigeria to Cameroon as well as to Chad and Niger. Image
This has deepened the humanitarian crisis in that corridor and highlighted the imperative of a multilateral humanitarian approach evident in the increasing number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees within the Lake Chad Region. Image

I spent the better part of today praying and hoping that there will be a counter-narrative regarding the deeply upsetting news from my home state of Zamfara
The reported mass abduction of over 300 students from their hostels at Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata Marafa Local Government Area is sad and must be condemned especially with the Kagara boys still in captivity.
The continuing attack on schools and students is a slap on the face of education and progress because education is critical to making a better and progressive society.

I thank God that peace is being restored across the nation after almost 3 very tense weeks. Our condolences go out to families of those who lost their lives. I also commiserate with those who lost goods & property.Every life counts & violence achieves nothing
I was very happy to speak to young men and women who are part of the Kashim Ibrahim fellowship especially during this period of agitation by youths for their voices to be heard. I shared with them my life story beginning as a young girl in Zamfara. Image
I also spoke to them about my journey as an admin officer and then a politician. In our interactions, I tried to share with them the virtues of perseverance, hard work, vision, and focus. It was an interactive and mutually insightful experience. ImageImageImage

The past few days have been distressing to me not just as a public officer but as a mother, sister and aunt. A week ago I made a passionate call for restraint & caution. I have been deeply saddened by the unnecessary loss of lives and destruction of property.
To paraphrase John Donne, any man's death diminishes us as human beings and as a people. The incidents of the past few days have been disastrous and they are leaving a worsening humanitarian toll in their wake from Lagos to Jos, Abuja to Aba.
I want to call, once again, on the security forces to exercise utmost restraint in dealing with the situation while calling on my younger brothers and sisters to cease from the violence which only helps to exacerbate the situation.

My week in 12 tweets

The past few weeks have been hectic and saddening especially with the rains wreaking havoc across states and communities from North to South as well as East to West.
We have also been witnesses to humanitarian disasters which have led to the loss of lives in different states. Our prayers, as always, are with the victims & their families even as we work hard to assuage their pain & ameliorate their losses.
On Monday, September 28th, 2020, @FMHDSD took time to clarify that the statement made by the Head of the ICPC regarding “N2.72b for School Feeding During Lockdown Diverted To Private Accounts” had nothing to do with our ministry. Our activities are transparent & above reproach.

My week began in earnest with my participation at the One-Day Retreat for Zonal Coordinators as well as Heads of Territorial & Operations Offices of @nemanigeria, with the theme: "Effective & Efficient Service Delivery at Operational Level"
I assured the participants that as the Minister with oversight for @nemanigeria I will continue to lead @FMHDSD towards the development of the appropriate initiatives for effective & efficient service delivery at all levels of management, especially at the operational levels.
On August 24, HE President @MBuhari approved the composition of the National Commission for People with Disabilities. It was a proud moment for me because this is a vulnerable population that is close to my heart who have now been entrusted with their own welfare.
