1/n Regarding Friday's Burkburnett, TX 5.33" diameter #hail...(Photo: ToniRieScott/FB)

NOAA's Storm Events Database documented 24 other 5"+ hail events in Texas since 1950.

The last one was almost exactly 1 year ago (5/20/2019) in Collingsworth County.
2/n NOAA's database only has four other Texas events with larger #hail than Friday's Burkburnett event.

Per Christopher Burt (@wunderground), the "unofficial" state record appears to have been 6-8" hail on Dec. 6, 1892. wunderground.com/cat6/record-ha…
3/n Among these past 5"+ #hail events in TX:

- Jun. 14, 2017: Hail driven by a microburst (est'd winds up to 100 mph) hammered Odessa, TX.

- Apr. 11, 2016: 80% of Dallas suburb of Wylie damaged by up to 5.25" hail.
4/n And in Big Spring, TX May 10, 1996:

"Graduation ceremony was ready to commence when softball hail struck Howard College. Skylights on the coliseum roof were shattered sending glass falling onto the floor that would have been filled with candidates just a few minutes later."
5/n NOAA's database lists 48 injuries from that 1996 Big Spring, TX event (cuts from broken glass and "direct strikes by jagged hailstones").

- "One hailstone broke the side window of a car and continued with enough force to break a woman's arm inside the car."
