The answer is: they don't care.

When you decide to align yourself with a decision for mass death, you need to make yourself comfortable with it.

To make yourself comfortable, you tell yourself a story.

This is their story.
Powerful people decided that rather than make the changes necessary to save lives, the virus will be allowed to have its way.

These people are aligning themselves with this decision, and would like to get on with it without reminders of what they're doing.

Masks are a reminder.
Masks are a open confession that there is a pandemic, which can be alleviated through preventative measures.

Which reminds everyone that deaths can be prevented.

Which convicts those who have decided not to prevent deaths of their decision.

They dislike being convicted.
We'll see reasons offered why these deaths weren't particularly tragic.

Seeing Covid deaths as tragic leads to questions asking how these deaths might have been prevented.

Those are questions people who have decided to not care would rather not see asked, much less answered.
They're announcing their god: their own comfort.

They don't think they're risking themselves. If they did, they'd demand masks.

These are the people who will go to court to free themselves from the dangers of gay wedding cakes or of science taught to their children.
Their god's got you if you don't wear a mask, one way or another—and they don't much care which way.

They'd just like to get on with it unencumbered by visual reminders of what's happening.
