I don’t know why but I find it somehow extra egregious when an already wealthy figure from somewhere far afield of politics is a Trump supporter.

Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Gary Player, Herschel Walker...

Guys who made millions in sports.

Unlike the Sean Hannitys and Tucker Carlsons, they get nothing from Trump.

There is no benefit to backing him.

They back him because they see something in common with him.

And they have no aptitude - or concern - for how he is injurious to people with less than them.

It just hits me as a huge tell that the person doesn’t give a remote fuck about the world around them or the people in it.

An insulated selfishness beyond measure.

A particular weakness of character made worse by money rather than better.

So, according to Christian Cooper, the man who filmed, Amy Cooper calling police on him in Central Park, there were words exchanged before he took out his phone.

He told Ms. Cooper that if she wasn’t going to leash her dog, she should “go across the Drive”.

She replied that it “wasn’t safe there.”

The Drive is the white line in this pic. The Ramble, where they were, is marked by the arrow.

The Drive is just south of the Great Lawn in the middle of the park lateral to the Museum or Natural History and Metropolitan Museum of Art.

If you know Central Park, you know her statement doesn’t make any sense.

The Great Lawn is a massive, open expanse. It is highly trafficked.

Walking your dog anywhere around it in broad daylight is by no means unsafe.

My husband is also a doctor but a bigger doctor with a bigger practice treating bigger nursing homes. He’s Canadian. This is a picture of him doing very doctorly things.

I don’t pay much attention to polls that only report approval vs. disapproval as two broad categories.

Sentiment falls on a spectrum.

Strong sentiment falls on the ends of that spectrum.

It isn’t a far trip to go from mild approval to mild disapproval or vice versa.

It is a long road to go from strong approval to strong disapproval or vice versa.

A politician’s “net-strongly’s” are more telling to me.

They show how large the pool is of people least likely to cross from in favor to opposed or from opposed to in favor.

Rasmussen is a notoriously skewed, Trump-friendly poll.

Yet, even they have Trump at -16 in net-strong sentiment.

Strongly approve: 31%
Strongly disapprove: 47%

A candidate who is DEEPLY in the negative in strong sentiment is in major trouble.
