Thread: Why you should switch from Dubs to Subs.

In simple words, because you are not watching the creaters original work but a western adoption of it. (1/n)
When anime gets dubbed from Japanese to English many tiny details, like references to obscure Japanese culture, will be omitted and replaced by references to western culture.
Which in turn effects the characterization & world building. (2/n)
You will be missing out on plenty of Easter-eggs.
Let me give you an example. In JoJo's Bizarre adventure a Clint Eastwood reference was changed to Overwatch (videogame) reference to better cater to western audience. (3/n) ImageImage
"But Ainz what if there is no Clint Eastwood reference? It doesn't change much"
No, it changes a lot. Creator of JoJo 'Hirohiko Araki' took inspiration from Clint Eastwood when creating Jotaro.
Sub watcher will find plenty of Easter-eggs regarding this where as...(4/n) Image
Dub watcher is left with nothing.

Knowing that Jotaro was inspired by Clint Eastwood helps to add a new layer to Jotaro's character, making us look at him in a slightly different manner.
Tiny details matter. It is those tiny details that Dub watchers will be missing out (5/n)
There are many such instances where change in tiny details changes characterization.
Ex: During a tournament Goku says to Gohan whether he could beat them all, Gohan responds humbly "I'll do my best". In the dub he says "Geez no pressure dad". (6/n)
This simple change turned Gohan's characterization from humble but confident to arrogant. That is why tiny details are extremely important. (7/n)
Let's take another example from the anime BOFURI. In here the character Maple, after getting attacked by pretty much everyone but still coming in 3rd place, says "I took a pounding but I liked it". It was a joke, a sexual innuendo. (8/n)
In the dub it was translated as "It was tough but I'm happy". Another tiny detail lost. (9/n)
Dubbing studios generally change the dialogue slightly to match the lip movement, but this problem never arises for subs because of the simple reason that Animators and Artists already have the script to which they have to draw the lip movements. (10/n)
Because of this simple reason even sloppy voice actors will have no problem lip-syncing. Coming to VAs, they put all of their heart and soul into their voice. I personally never felt the same intensity or emotion when watching dub. (11/n)
It is not just the absence of tiny details but, Dub watchers will be exposed to far more subtle & sinister elements.
I'm talking about insertion of political agenda into Anime. Permit me to give some examples. (12/n)
In the anime 'Demi-chan wa Kataritai' they inserted the word Social Justice Warrior for no reason. It was used against a good female character who was standing up for her friend who is being bullied. (13/n)
The original sub had no such words. (14/n) Image
In the anime 'Hajimete no Gal' they made a parody of Trumps speech. It was not found in sub (15/n)
In that same anime they butchered this scene completely. Here's original sub. (16/n)
Here is the dub. You can see clearly that they tried to insert feminist world view. (17/n)
Here is how the dialogues are changed. (18/n) Image
In the anime 'Highschool of the dead' they referenced 'Sarah Palin' a republican politician. A joke about how republicans are gun hoarders. (19/n)
Unsurprisingly original sub does not refer Sarah Palin. (20/n) Image
In the original sub of the anime 'Isekai wa smartphone to tomo ni' the character says "I would rather believe a closet pervert who controls himself, than a feminist". (21/n) Image
In the dubbed version they completely changed that dialogue to remove any references to feminism. (22/n)
In the anime 'Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid' they inserted "pesky patriarchal societal demands". Here is a comparison between sub and dub. (23/n)
The original version vs the dubbed version. Notice the change in dialogues. (24/n) ImageImage
In that same anime they inserted the phrase 'cultural appropriation'. (25/n)
The original sub does not have any such phrases. (26/n) Image
The dubbed version of the anime 'Prison School' references "Gamergate Creeps". Anyone who follows what's happening in western countries knows what 'Gamergate' is. (27/n)
The original line in the sub and manga is "But I'm a second year. You have to address a superior more politely". Just imagine how drastic this change is. After heavy backlash from angry anime fans they removed the Gamergate reference. (28/n)
In the anime 'To Love Ru' they changed the line from "That's old fashioned" to "That's misogynistic". (29/n)
Here is the total dialogue. Sub vs Dub. (That's old fashioned/that's crude - depending which subs are on the video) (30/n) ImageImage
This is not some conspiracy theory that I'm saying. Studios like Funimation insert woke/feminist agenda into their dubbed versions. Most veteran weebs are aware of this. Here is a Funimation VA and script writer (for some anime) admitting it. (31/n) Image
Note: This is not about how subbed anime is conservative, there are plenty of anime with leftist agendas.
I'm giving you all these examples to show you what kind of problems that Dub-watchers have to deal with that sub-watchers don't. (32/n)
I believe most of you can tell the difference between translation and adoption.
Here is a simple rule of the thumb.
Subbed = Translation
Dubbed = Adoption. (33/n)
Dubbed anime cater primarily to western audience. And to do so they change the content of the original anime (sometimes slightly, sometimes drastically).
And because they change the content of the original work they should be called ADOPTATIONS not TRANSLATIONS. (34/n)
Again, I'm not saying all dubs are bad. There are plenty of amazing dubs. Cowboy bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ghost Stories deviated very much from the original but they were excellent dubbed anime. (35/n)
In fact 'Ghost stories' anime was super obscure in Japan and it only regained some recognition BECAUSE of the notoriety of the dub. The dub is absolutely hilarious and a must watch. (36/n)
Dubbed anime are completely different from the original work. They should be looked at as if they are a different anime. Here is what creator of 'Ghost in the shell' Mamoru Oshii has to say about this. (37/n)
End of the thread. Thank you for reading. (38/38) Image

"Hinduism bad because i can't sleep in the afternoon and other petty rules".

Thread: It is bardic exaggeration to scare the masses into leading a disciplined life. (1/n)
Recently there have been many discussions on Hindu-X regarding rules in Hinduism, where it is claimed that "Hinduism sends you to hell for petty things", "Our ancestors are not that smart". (2/n)
We must keep in mind memeplexes like religions don't survive for thousands of years unless they have an element of 'lindy-ness' to them. (3/n) Image

Japanese PM made a Demon Slayer anime reference "Total concentration breathing".

This anime Demon Slayer is an enormous hit in Japan.

Thread about popularity of Demon slayer.
You know your film/anime is a hit when politicians started giving reference to it.
For ex - Modi giving Bahubali reference.

The anime so famous that 90% people in Japan are aware of it. Ninety fucking percent. Image

@Smitavaktra The state itself does more harm to Hindus and to the country. The real reason is Hindus TRUST the state and its institutions. Sulloids don't trust the state. They look at it with deep distrust.
@Smitavaktra Heck, they don't even trust the polio workers and because they deeply distrust the state, they mobilize against it with an impressive ease. Hindus, deep down, trust the state.
@Smitavaktra Hindus can mobilize against sulloid mobs but not against police (or other institutions) because they think that is not right. There are several instances where sullas rounded up police stations themselves but...

The original members of Ainz Ooal Gown (Nine's own goal) - Thread.

(Nothing important in here, you can scroll by)
Nothing much is known about the original members of Ainz Ooal Gown but we know about 5 of them.
1. Touch me.

The original founder and guild leader of Nine's Own Goal. An absolute badass. Unbeatable in 1 on 1 combat. He was such a strong fighter that he won world tornament earning him the title "world champion" and the armor he is wearing.

thread: how I classify and identify with RW twitter.

I identify with more than 1 group. I'm writing this thread so that I can better elaborate my position. (1/n)

I have 2 criteria that I want people to meet. Once both these criteria are met I consider them part of my group.

1. Proud and Unabashed Hindu.
2. Bloodlust for the enemies of Hindus.

That's it. Pretty simple.

Let's see which RW groups qualify. (2/n)
i. Trads:

They pass both criteria.
Though a small section of trads fail to qualify 2nd criteria (ex: absence of bloodlust for foreign pagans, I'm not talking about strategic alliance) trads as a whole pass the test. (3/n)

Thread: Why you should not meme about gods.

Context: Just yesterday there were these memes doing rounds in my TL.

Note: This is not about singling out these posts in particular but to call attention to a rather distressing trend. (1/n)
First you need to understand memes. On the surface meme is basically text on image that is humorous. The intricacy lies in how the humor is derived. In most of the cases (like in above) it is derived by oversimplification, reductionism, exaggeration and caricature. (2/n)
That is exactly where the problem lies. (3/n)
