1. I don't think the ABC is 'pushing' anything - they ran a story - as adults you can take it in and agree with the proponents in the story or not. That's fine.
2. Not all nurses work in public hospitals - eg they work in private hospitals, aged care, disability care, community care, general practice, specialist clinics, schools, child &maternal health centres, factories, construction sites, mental health clinics, parliament houses,
corporations, labour-hire, in private practice and more. That puts them pretty much on the front-line.
3. Pay rates vary drastically across all those sectors.
4. Many nurses across many sectors did find themselves needing jobseeker or jobkeeper.
5. Surely the conversation here is about how we as a society value those workers in the care and services economies, predominantly feminised workforces, lower and low paid industries compared with, say, the financial sector or the trades industries.
They are essential, often equally if not more qualified, highly skilled, actually changing &saving lives. It is 'nice' that suddenly care based workers are recognised as heroes. But as a sector of the economy, around 15% of the workforce, there is no doubt they are undervalued.
