Breaking - Al Kuwait livestock ship, docked at Fremantle, has six confirmed COVID-19 cases. Nearly 50 crew onboard @abcperth #perthnews
Six crew taken off ship. Other 42 remaining on board “for time being”. Premier says it’s “more than likely” more crew members will become infected.
Premier Mark McGowan says Fremantle Port was not made aware of health concerns aboard ship. One port worker in isolation, after having gone on board ship to steer it into position. His close contacts are also into isolation. “Clearly this is not good,” Premier says.
Ship was due to take 56,000 sheep to Kuwait and UAE. All the sheep are at a feedlot in Baldivis, can’t return to farm due to biosecurity regulations.
Up to half a dozen Fremantle Port workers went onto the ship, Police Commissioner confirms.
