You’d think, given that the backlog is north of 40,000 cases and growing fast, that the government might have reversed its recent cuts to Crown Court sitting days, so that we can blast through the backlog when the courts reopen. But no.
Victims, witnesses, defendants and families are being asked to wait another year for their day in court. And the government’s focus on justice is limited to posturing about “tough prison sentences” and inventing imaginary defences for Dom. What a time to be alive.
