An open letter to CPES staff,

Some refer to this time period as the “New Normal.” We argue that term is inaccurate and should not be used. There is nothing normal about this situation. In fact, the only thing we know for sure is that one day, somehow, somewhere, it will end. 1
A fact that proves this is not normal and shouldn’t be considered that way. 2/
We, friends, are still in a crisis situation. “Extended crisis” if you prefer. Here’s why what we call this period is important - because we are responding in crisis mode, which takes effort, energy, and sustenance not required when things are normal. 3/
Saying this is any kind of “normal” means we should grow accustomed to it, which is, itself, deflating and exhausting. 4/
This is not our normal. This is how we perform during a crisis. This is not what we can expect in the long run. And while we are in the midst, we must maintain perspective. 5/
This is for now. This is temporary. Though, it’s a longer temporary than usual, so we must take care of ourselves and each other. 6/
If Cunningham Park is a ship sailing through a storm, we are the crew keeping it upright and sailing in its focused direction. Sometimes, we have to rest, take somebody else’s oar for a bit so they can rest, help each other see our destination 7/
because it can become unclear for all the wind and rain. And we can do it. We ARE doing it. For the sake of our children, we are holding on with all our energy and not letting go. 8/
Remember, we are in this together, nobody is alone in this. 9/
And you are miracles for your children. We are so happy for our students that they have you. Keep going, we have three weeks, we advise everybody to take a deep breath, think of the absolute most fun, cutting edge, exciting experiences you have within you and have at it! 10/
Have fun, yourselves. Laugh, enjoy, feel joy. You deserve it as much as anyone on and surrounding our ship. 11/
Keep going. You are amazing! /12
