Yes. But given the amount of power we've concentrated in the hands of the presidency, it makes perfect sense to worry about how deviant, defective, and declining he is. I wish we were speaking more often about how dangerous it is that we've turned the presidency into a monarchy.
It's certainly not what the Founders envisioned, and they had excellent reasons for not wishing the presidency to be a form of monarchy--as we're seeing.
And so long as we're operating with a grossly overweening presidency, we'll be at risk of the presidency being captured by dangerous demagogues. The presidency is what most needs to be reformed if we're serious about democracy.
