On the 12th February 1993, these two boys led a two year old toddler named James Bulger away from his mum, who’d momentarily taken her eyes off him, and out of the shopping centre where they were.

The boys had skipped school that day, and before they kidnapped Bulger, had been thieving from shops and purposefully looking for a target.

The two boys walked around with him for a while before bringing him to a railway line near a disused station, where they began torturing him. They dropped him on his head, stamped on him, kicked him and thew bricks at him.

Threw paint into his eye. Dropped a 10kg iron bar on him. They hit him so many times (42), that the pathologist couldn’t even determine which was the fatal blow.

Then in a final act of cold-blooded depravity, lay his dead body on the railway line, in the hope that a train would run over his body and make it look like an accident. It did, and his body was severed in two. 😩😩

What made this case even more disturbing is that they were under psychological scrutiny for years, but none were able to understand why they did what they did. They weren’t obviously disturbed and seemed (at the time) to be developing pretty normally whilst behind bars. 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

The child murderers were sent to a young offenders' institute, where they stayed until their release at the age of 18 in 2001.

They got an education and were allowed unlimited visits from the parents, and Thompson was said to have quite a high IQ.

They were both given new identities on the understanding that they had been rehabilitated and did not break the law again.

Jon Venables was born on 13 August 1982, making him ten-years-old when he abducted and killed James Bulger with his friend.

He was given extensive rehabilitation during his time in a young offenders' institute and was issued with a new identity after leaving.

His identity has been changed twice since, after he compromised his identity and told his new friends he was a convicted murderer.

In 2008, seven years after being released from prison, he was arrested after a drunken fight and was given a formal warning by the probation service. He was also given a caution for being in possession of cocaine.

Two years later he was sent back to prison after he was found with images of child sexual abuse.

The Parole Board recommended his release in 2013.

However, in 2017 he was arrested again for possessing child abuse images, and sentenced to 40 months behind bars in February 2018, almost 25 years after the day after he murdered Bulger.

Robert Thompson's new identity is protected by an unprecedented injunction, which applies around the world, meaning that even searching for his address could lead to a prison sentence.

White people be protecting white criminals. 🤦🏾‍♂️

He has not re-offended since being released, and in 2010 it was reported he was in a long-term relationship with a man who knows his true identity.
