The @CSCNInfo Francophone school board is meeting tonight. I will be attempting to emulate @Jantafrench and live tweeting the meeting in an attempt to share widely the information. You can also view the meeting live at
/ And here we go.
/ Remote meeting, of course, as is the case these days
/ Procedure done quickly, on to item 7.1 - learning at home
/ Surveys have gone out and been received - taken in March and May. Some variance in answers depending upon the date
/ 83-87% of parents say the structure in place for learning is working
/ Some encouraging comments from surveys, noting organization issues with courses and workflow as being issues commented upon
/ Return plan by Ministry is 3 models - as previously reported. Virutal, hybrid (some restrictions) or open
/ If return with some restrictions, expectation that some kids may not come back right away, will have to support that learning
/ waiting for further clarifications from Ministry before next steps, ie how will the return occur. Not expecting a plan to crystalize until August or end of summer
/ Working on various scenarios but also want to wait for the directives from the Ministry of Education
/ A gift?donation? will be made - sorry missed it. Noting supports that will be given to graduates - advertising
/ Q's now. JD Tremblay asking how long will we need to get ready for whatever scenario comes, and what about the plans for the daycares?
/ A: planning for them all, example transport needs will be different under the scenarios - so we take the 3 months to prepare and anticipate either scenario. DG has confidence and notes the good work of the office and admin team. If in August we will be ok.
/ A: as to day-cares opening (there are day-cares in some of the @CSCNInfo schools), if kids can go to school seems that it should be the same for pre-school aged kids. Looking at the issue, if not possible for kids to go back it will be unlikely that day-cares in schools would
/ Might have a different scenario at La Mission school as the building is physically separate. Leaning generally to not opening the pre-schools. @CSCNInfo would have to preserve space to manage potential scenarios
/ Q: from @ealary47 about access to computers from families in the @CSCNInfo
/ Surprised to hear about a distribution issue - there is a limit in the availability but over 700 machines out. Surprised to hear that as schools noting the thanks for the large amount of machines being lent to famillies
/ Schools will have some latitude to deal with graduation ceremonies - of course respecting health guidelines
/ @NathalieLachan6 following up on Q from @ealary47 about FTE staff and the needs in either scenario - surely will need more cleaning staff
/ Q from @TanyaSaumure about time line extension for working from home. A: extended currently to June 29
/ Q from @steve83956696 will Board be taking computers back upon kids return; A: yes that being discussed, ie the transfer between virtual currently in place and the return - will keep virtual until end of June
/ DG noting that a small piece of land from @EPSBNews has had to declare a small band of land and the Board passed - NOTE: this is important, the big boards must offer up their surplus sites before other things/uses for the land can be contemplated
/ Now president report from @TanyaSaumure
/ Presented the options of renovation or new build for @Ecole_BO to Layla Goodridge
/ Noted that the situation was a breach of s.23 rights for the parents/children in Fort McMurray
/ @TanyaSaumure noting that @LailaGoodridge has always indicated that she is a proud graduate of the @UAlberta_CSJ when they meet
/ Meetings with the @ACFAAB regarding the importance of pre-schools in Franconphone schools - meeting with @brad_rutherford for @Ecole_SV
/ @JasvirDeol_ reached out seeking a meeting
/ Waaay too many meetings there from @TanyaSaumure for me to list.
/ @steve83956696 now reporting on survey questions coming @ACSTANews
/ @ACSTANews looking at reducing the number of board members (currently 27) but 24 members pay dues
/ On to @ABSchoolBoards . @ealary47 notes general discussions (Covid) and other boards raising issues and that Ismael sent his notes of his meetings
/ On to 8.4. Consortium of groups who train educators (example, technology training google classroom) question if they will continue or change the structure. Looking at a new model where 7 regions would combine banking/accounting issues
/ Under consideration that 1 of the seats at the Board table would be from a Francophone board - that's good news
/ 3 year mandate rotating between 4 DG's from various Boards. My note: that's good work by the @CSCNInfo Admin to get the Francophones a seat at the table
/ DG noting that the awesome Josey Devaney from @CSCNInfo is on the board currently reviewing the formula for financing of transport
- Edit - Josée
/ Blink and you miss it - @steve83956696 reporting on meeting with parents school councils
/ Recruitment and promotion now. Planing a 2 stage publicity plan over the summer
/ registrations are slower than usual
/ Will ensure that the adds will clearly state that the Board is Francophone (versus immersion)
/ Will do adds for graduates. Looking at videos for the schools
/ Now reports from the Trustees
/ most have provided their info through committee reports
/ @Ecole_JM update old gym, design at 60-70%. A question about the city now asking questions about the permit, some technical parking issues
/ Citadelle school new build - now a design build, May 28 tomorrow the bid deadline is up and builder will be selected and extend tender process
/ St. Vital new school in Beaumont. Working with the plans being reviewed by Ministry and then a letter from the municipality to proceed
/ Had asked for funds from the Federal Government (through a Provincial application on behalf of @CSCNInfo ) which was rejected but meeting will occur to re-apply for that funding
/ @TanyaSaumure noting that we still have listed 3-4 Main priorities on the current infrastructure list, are pushing for all schools
/ Noting that the government selects from the list - this is further noted by @ealary47. For example surprised by some announcements of gvt selection of which of the many priorities listed
/ Q from @jdtremblay1 about meeting in Fort Mac. A: flood impacts and updating contacts responsible for the situation (new DG at the Board where a portion of the Francophone program is housed) - Yes, that's right, a portion of the Francophone program not run by the Board
/ That's what the President @TanyaSaumure was noting that was raised with @LailaGoodridge about @Ecole_BO in Fort McMurray.
/ Discussing the Provincial money for replacements/fix of buildings of $2.5 million. Q from @ealary47 about the roof at @Ecole_ML
/ DG notes there may be a labour capacity issue (a large number of school roofs all at once)
/ My note: strikes me that part of the $2.5 could fix the roof between @Ecole_JM and the second Gym. Interesting decisions for the @CSCNInfo as to how to allocate those funds
/ A vote to renew principal contracts at 2 schools
/ Separate propositions from the Catholic board and the Public board for the renewal of indefinite contracts for certain schools
/ My note: It's not obvious running a combined meeting, and it's nice to see the proper propositions from each Board
/ Now information in block for reception of vice-principal contracts
/ Josée Devaney is retiring after many years of devoted work for the @CSCNInfo . Merci Josée!!!
/ Marc Labonté will take up the position of Treasurer -Bravo Marc
/ 11.3 Transportation. This is a big deal for the Francophone school board where a huge proportion of kids are from out of the nearby area
/ Discussion on the training with bus drivers for assisting kids with riding properly/safely on the bus
/ Nice precision from Q from @ealary47 - A: the lower inscriptions is in the kindergarden area not generally
/ @ealary47 notes this current drop in inscriptions in this area will not impact the funding for upcoming year (new formula right)
/ Some discussion by administration re. covid protocols
/ Admin testing things out
/ @TanyaSaumure noting letter received from @SearleTurton in support of Spruce Grove/Stony Plain school project
/ Admin is now going over a long list of meetings since the past meeting - more than I can type
/ Now going over meetings to come and scheduling
/ Still have to come back to the finance committee
/ That will be heard in-camera is my guess. That is the end of the meeting.
/ Thank you to the @CSCNInfo Board, Administration, all the employees and the teachers. As parents we appreciate your work, effort dedication to our children and community. #frab
