Some more thoughts on the bizarre track and trace scheme. Following discussion on Twitter last night, I now realise that the contact tracer will not tell you who has given them your number or email. That is the credibility of the system shot to pieces right away. 1/8
/8 Who will self isolate for 14 days on the basis a stranger has called them up and informed them that *another* stranger has named them? The contact tracers will quickly find the patience of the people they’re calling wearing very thin.
/8 But there’s another weird twist. If you’re the Covid patient, *you* are encouraged to tell the people you’re listing that you’ve done it. So they are ‘prepared’ when the contact tracer gets in touch.
/8 ‘Don’t worry. Put everyone down on the website you’ve been in touch with. They won’t know it’s you, as we won’t tell them. But it would be great if you told them yourself.’ I mean , come on. This is absolutely barking mad, isn’t it?
/8 So the next thing is that the Covid patient becomes selective in who they list, as they don’t want to have to tell, say, their boss or work colleague that they’ve listed them.
/8 If you’re in a job which necessitates contact with a lot of people, you are going to be asked to self-isolate multiple times in overlapping waves. Particularly if there is a localised outbreak at a workplace.
/8 It’s a ‘civic duty’ to comply with self isolation. Fine. But how does anyone know that anyone has complied or not? They tell the contact tracer they will and then they don’t. Without the Stasi on tap, that’s the end of it.
/8 So Hancock could fine people. On what evidence? How are the cases of non-compliance actually built? Without a network of informants and surveillance?
