Two questions I hope the media might ask Durham Police:

(1) This is a particularly serious case, isn't it, because Cummings didn't have a respectable reason to go to Barnard Castle such that you have to decide if it was a "reasonable" excuse. He didn't have any excuse at all?
(2) Your guidelines talk about policing by consent. What sort of message does it send to regular people - those without Cummings' power and influence - for you to decide, in relation to an unapologetic and enormously high profile offender, that you will not enforce the law?
And a third.

(3) Your statement says there "might have" been a minor breach. The facts are known to you: he told you in a press conference. Why is missing for you to say whether there was or there wasn't?

Remembering a story told to me about Cummings by someone who was there.
At the start of the referendum campaign proper Cummings went in to see the FT's key editorial staff to explain how he was going to win the vote for Leave. Big meeting, lots of very bright people. Any normal person would have been intimidated.
Not Cummings. He slowly explained his plan and jaws dropped and dropped. Eventually one of the FT staff said: "What, you're just going to lie your way to victory?" and Cummings responded with a look that suggested he couldn't understand why anyone might ask that question.

I see the Mail is going after the teacher who helped expose the lies and law breaking of Cummings. What a nasty bully it is.
Cummings helped set the guidance - then broke it, repeatedly. He helped set the laws - then broke them. He broke both despite believing he carried the virus and so was a threat to the lives of others. That's why what he did matters.
Back in 2007, Dacre told a House of Lords Committee of how "the judiciary needs a free press to support it against an over-powerful executive." Thirteen years on, his newspaper spends its ink attacking those who hold an over-powerful Executive to account. A bully and a hypocrite.

Dominic Cummings' goings, an incomplete history.

August 2019: my contract expires on 31 October.
December 2019: I'll quit in the New Year if I can't go part time.
May 2020: I'll quit in six months.
